A few weeks ago I was at the mall with Lauren. We parked by Forever 21, and used their exterior entrance to access the mall.
Now for those of you not familiar with Forever 21, think trendy teen age/college age clothing, at incredibly affordable prices.
As we walked through the store Lauren and I both saw this skirt. We both immediately knew she had to have it. It was just too cute.
Now seeing as Lauren is NINE, and the clothing in this store is theoretically designed and made for teenage girls, I figured an extra small should fit her nicely. I held the skirt up to her and it seemed the correct size. I did not have her try it on because Katie was with us, and well I just couldn't go there....
So when we got home she tried it on. Results, she could not zip up the zipper, it was about 1/3 of an inch too small for her. Now you have seen pictures of Lauren, and some of you have even seen her in person. Its not like she is large or big, in fact she is rather skinny. Which begs the questions "If an extra small in junior sizes will not fit my NINE year old, who in the h*** is this designed to fit?"

Too small, really?

A lot of those teenage clothing stores have clothing that is sized very small. Even thin girls have to buy a larger size than they would in another store. It's no wonder that the girls think they are fat and become anorexic when they have to buy a size L in those stores. I think that those stores create a very bad image for the girls who shop there. They should size their clothing according to normal stores or patterns so the girls won't get so discouraged and think that they are fat when they aren't.
